Zinsco circuit breaker upgrade! ?
I have a zinsco panel ( dangerous ) lol and my problem is i need to upgrade a 30 amp breaker to a 50 ! The issue im having is the box has no main switch on it its all 20 amp and 2 @30 amp! I can not access the main period so i need to pull the 30 while the bus is still hot then install rhe new 50 . Please any advice will help accept the advise from those who say get a pro or get ro the main lol neither of ythose are options !! Thank you...
The safest is hire a qualified professional. Next, since these are not bolted in breakers, turn that breaker off, wear a set of insulated gloves, pull on the wires that are in that breaker to release it from the buss. If the breaker is under a retaining bar, then the breaker must be pried out from the side away from the wires to get it off of the power buss. Since you are increasing the size of the breaker, you also need to verify that the wire is rated for the 50 amps or you may cause a fire and with the change not being in specification, you have voided your fire insurance. This means it is cheaper, faster and safer to hire a qualified professional to change the fire starter and do the job properly.
