Outlet keeps blowing out lights.?
We have an electrical outlet in the kitchen. Works fine as long as you only plug stuff into either one of the two receptacles. But once you plug something into both outlets, (usually a string of Christmas lights and something else) an electrical surge blows out the Christmas lights. We put in a new GFCI plug, but it still blows. How can I fix it?
you have to much on that circuit ,that plug is also connected to other plugs which have other appliances connected to them . so your overloading that whole circuit when you add that last " string of lights " to the plug . its probably a re fridge or a freezer or even something in the basement connected to that same line .
have an electrician run a separate line to the kitchen area so you can have a plug that has 20 amp of electricity , then you can plug in almost anything you'd like .
christmas lights draw maybe 1 amp , a re fridge lwill draw 10 amps on start up . a toaster will draw 15 amps .and on and on
