Solar Panel Blocking
How does one collect energy from gamma radiation?
I figure it's too high in energy to use something conventional, like a solar panel. Does it heat lead significantly, during absorbance? If so could you just strap a heat engine on a block of lead and use that?
Don't worry, this is just part of a thought I'm having... I'm not really working with gamma radiation ;P
I do know how a solar panel works, but I figure that gamma radiation is of the wrong wavelength to manipulate electrons in the necessary way.
The process I'm talking about is not *really* a nuclear reaction, although it is related.

Solar panels work in a very different way. The usual way is to wrap it in lead to absorb the radiation, then use the hot lead to heat something (usually steam) and run a generator off that.
