Converting outlet box to allow a face plate?
we've finished our basement and I thought (incorrectly) that I could put face plates on the old outlet boxes that were bolted to the cinder block walls. The Outlet boxes are stamped metal, adjoining covered electrical lines running along the wall from box to box. The old box covers used to secure the outlets in place, so I'm at a loss as to how to fix new face plates on them securely.
Is there a conversion available that I can mount on the box, so I can attach a faceplate securely?

Yes. This is what you need.
What you have pictured is what is known as a single gang plaster ring. For one device: whether it's a switch or receptacle.
They also make a two gang plaster ring. For two devices.
The other piece of information that you'll need is known as the rise. These are used for plaster walls or sheet rock. Say the wall board that you're installing over the 2x4's is 5/8" thick, you'll need a 5/8" rise plaster ring. They come in all different rises. From none (just flat) to 2" . You can special order them up to 4".
(The old ones were probably RS covers.)
