Emergency Electricity Outlet cover?
Just moved into a new place and for some reason there is a electricity plug right next to the sink (I think it was a renovation and no one thought about this) - this is right where the plates dry and obviously very concerned...
Obviously I will get a proper electrician in to properly uninstall it, but is there any issues with covering the outlet with duct tape until they arrive?
Thanks for all the advice... A little more on the situation, I am actually in Hong Kong, which is why I am extra worried. Excuse my ignorance but what is GFIC and how do I know if it is grounded?
If it is a newer home within the past 20 years or so it should be GFCI protected and you shoud be ok and it coulld be protected in a few different ways form the load side of another GFCI or with a breaker. If in doubt turn the circuit off and do not use it rather then tape it up. But you should be fine until you have it looked at and it should be a GFCI protected receptacle.
It is not unusual to have receptacle at or near the sink area or in the counters tops matter of fact code requires them to be there but they do have to be GFCI's
