How to Harvest Electricity from EMF fields?
I live near some power lines and even 30ft outside of their easement I can still get a bad shock coming into contact with something metal, Lawn chair, mower, ect. It's so bad I cant have a metal swing set anywhere on the property. It seems to me with as strong as these shocks are there should be some sort of "Green technology" or method to me to harvest this energy and put it to good use. Anyone have any ideas of how?
Short answer: The costs outweigh the benefits
You can use aerials to transfer any emf field (even those used to send you radio or TV) into a current which can power something. A simple Google search will find you countless plans on how to build a "free energy" device like this. The problem is the static shock is a build up over time whereas to create a useful current you need a really large antenna, probably tens of meters in length if your power lines meet regulations (which I'm sure they do). There was a mythbusters episode on this and other "free energy" sources.
