Help me diagnose my plant please. It is a nice green cactus. One of the leaves (arms?)is wilted and yellowed?
It seems healthy, however I do not want the condition to worsen.
I can only guess at the cause as I am no a green thumb. I think I may have to water it more, but Im reluctant because I heard that more plants die from "drowning" than from lack of water. And I think that's what happened to my last plant.
I also thought it may be getting too much sun as it gets upwards of 11 hrs a day.
Finally I wonder if it needs a bigger pot?
Can you tell me what you think is the cause?
Background: I live in phoenix, I water it once every two or three days, but sometimes four days may pass. When I do water it-I give it about 14 -20 ounce's! She is about the size and width of my computer (not a flat screen). The pot holds about a gallon or two.
Also should I clip off the yellowed limb? It has like 50 more.
Tips welcome.
You may have diagnosed the problem yourself. The 'yellowing' is a sign of over watering. If browning and brittle, not enough. You must first see if your pot does allow excess water to escape at the bottom of your pot. If you feel that there is not enough water making its way through, you will have to re-pot the plan.
Usually what happens when a plant is in its pot too long, the root system creates the shape of the pot and drives out the soil. The whole purpose of re-poting is to break the roots out of its self strangulation and grow outward.
As for pruning the limb, it is up to you but keep an eye on it for now it is suspect to fungal attack.
