GFCI RECEPTACLE PROBLEMS?
Hey people, ok i changed out the OLD GFI receptacle with a new one(in black) did the switches and all. so i took out the old gfi and replaced it with the new gfci and wired it EXACTLY the same but when i turn the breaker back on the gfci trips! what is causing this? everything is wired the same- load, line, ground and it trips,
i should mention the gfci is also wired in with a single pole light switch but like i said i wired it the exact same way i took it out- any help greatly appreciated. thanks
double check your wires with the line and load. With the power off and a continuity tester it is very easy. Find your first outlet on the load side of your GFI (it will be an outlet, switch, or whatever, when the GFI trips.) Take out the outlet and twist the black and white together. With the continuity tester touch the a black and white wire where your GFI is. When you tester starts to beep, you will have your load side. Put that black and white wire on the top side of the GFI and the other black and white to the bottom side of the GFI , and put the other outlet back together and that should solve your problem. If it doesn't then the GFI is bad.
