Most frugal wedding?

I am getting married next month and both my fiance and I would rather be eloping but our church won't allow it. Soo....we've agreed to have a very small backyard wedding. I would've been happy just inviting 4 people but my future MIL (God bless her) decided to announce our secret wedding to my future hubby's rather large family. Now it looks like we'll be having at least 50 people at this backyard (the backyard is gorgeous) ceremony.

Could anyone provide tips on how to make the wedding simple yet pretty while sticking to a strict budget? I'd like it to be elegant just on a small scale. Has anyone had a wedding like this? Thanks in advance!

I know you can't throw a wedding with 50 people for the same price you could have done it for just four of you, but I think you'll be surprised at how much money you can save just by doing really thorough research. Look everything up online, even when you find your favors try to also find them elsewhere, you never know where they will be the cheapest. Same with food and flowers. Most caterers or florists will have a complimentary meeting or price list or some kind of reference that you can go over.

I would say to just keep everything small. Centerpieces, go with nice flowers but maybe just put a couple of them in a tall bud vase on the table. Don't go too frilly or cutesy with anything. I would keep things very simple and just allow yourself a certain amount of money for each thing - and stick to it!

As for general budget-ness, I would pick the things that you care about the most (for me it was photography) and book that first. I was willing to have a little bit less in the budgete for food, music, anything as long as we had a great photographer.

Other tricks are to make things yourself, use Michaels and other crafts stores (it's amazing what a $5 roll of tulle can do for your decorating!) and please remember to relax and have fun! It's going to turn out fabulously! Good luck and best wishes on your marriage!
