How do I forgive myself for making stupid financial mistakes that cost me my family's home & only savings ?
they have? I have been living with this guilt for more than 20 years and I'm still punishing myself for that. I feel like I don't deserve to live and should be put to death long time ago. Everyday I wake up hoping that it didn't really happen and it was just a bad dream. Even though my family don't blame me, I blame myself for putting them through the grieve and heartache of losing their 30 years of hard-earned money. They were very frugal people who give the best to their children and now I blew everything. I prayed to God for help but he didn't help to alleviate the pain or undo my mistake or bring back the money/possessions. What can I do?
You really need to let it go now. Presuming you didn't intend to throw the money away on purpose, then you made a mistake, plain and simple. You're being way too hard on yourself. Twenty years is a long time to carry that. You can put it down now. Faced with the same choices today, you wouldn't do the same things, would you? No, of course not. So, lesson learned. "When you know better, you do better". Be grateful you have a loving family who aren't heaping scorn and ridicule on you for having made a mistake.
