What are your BEST Frugal Cooking Recipiesand Tips?
What are you best secrets for saving $ when it comes to groceries. Our Groceries are the biggest expence in our house aside from the mortgage, and I am trying to dwindle it down a little but still provide my family with healthy meals.
What do you make from scratch? what do you buy in bulk? How do you save your money at the store or in the kicthen??
I buy 75% of items on sale. What's on sale is what's for dinner. That saves me at least 35% (for real) on my bill. Real potatoes, make your own pancake batter, biscuits etc. Buy bag rice and pasta, bulk or on big sales. Minimize frozen items and snack items. I do buy snacks but they are 100% on sale. Example: buy 1 get one free Lay's chips, Micro popcorn $1 box or 3 etc. I buy Kool Aid and buy 2 liter pop on sale - far cheaper then cans etc.
Buy a lot of chicken, burger. Buy fish, round steak and pork when on big sales.
At my grocery store, they run all kinds of lost leader items - these are sold commonly for 1/2 off.
We almost never eat out - one meal for 3-5 would cost me 5 days of home cooked meals.
