how much does it cost to have a nice wedding-from the most frugal planning estimate to a more moderate wedding?
i have never planned one or helped anyone so i have no idea what i am in for. our date is for next mid october. I would like any advice as when should i start planning it, how much money do i need to have saved, how much time do i need to put it in. thanks so much for any help! i am a clueless bride to be and also kinda poor, lol
well you have just under a year, relax it will all fall into place, and for a small wedding its really easy to plan in this time. first things first you need to establish:
how much you can actually afford to save a month (we save £500)
then you work out how much that totals
speak to parents ask if they would like to contribute, add this, this is then your budget, dont be unrealistic with your saving each month you have to still be able to live, work and play with money not in use for wedding stuff.
determine style/theme - intimate/ large, traditional/modern, church/courthouse,
there is no reason why you cant have a lavish wedding on a tight budget, just have to be willing to shop around for good deals and accept help from friends and family.
are any of your friends good at baking/photogrophy/decor etc, enlist them to help
asking your wedding party to help with the cost of clothing and accessories really cuts costs!
buy your dress on sale
hire rather than buy suits
limit your guestlist to minimal numbers of close family and friends, you always have the option of a 1yr anniversary party for everyone!
make your own invites/thank you cards/save the dates/settings
rather than a favour for each person have a candy station or a small jar of candy on each table so people can help themselves
im sure you will have everything planned in time and all of the ideas i have listed save a LOT of money!
just get your venue sorted asap, the good venues get booked very quickly! sometimes 2 years in advance, so as soon as you have your venue everything is set.
look in your search engine for 'complete wedding checklist' there are thousands, and you can then get an intensive one and edit it to exclude the things you arent bothered about having.
good luck and have fun! i have been planning my wedding since september2008 and i have only got 6 months left to go! its the best, and most stressful time of your life, just make sure you take a minute every once in a while to ground yourself and to say 'hey, im actually getting married!' and not just focus on all of the stress involved!
and one last tip: DELEGATE!!! get a great MOH and family who can help with your dream!
