Do I need to ask special permission from an apartment manager/owner before making my own bio-diesel?
I know that some people make bio-diesel in their own kitchen(but more often the garage or yard), so the fumes must not be that bad when mixing the lye with the Waste Vegetable Oil.
Would I need to ask permission from the owner or manager of the complex before doing this in my own yard?Also, would I need any special way of disposing of the glycerin?
I agree with coffeebreak. A home kitchen is not a good place to make biodiesel. There will be grease spills and lye is very caustic. It will dissolve paint and burn holes through skin. It will take a substantial investment in equipment to make enough biodiesel to be worth the trouble. The processor will be too big for an apartment kitchen. Your best bet is to find a partner who has a place to set up a processor. Split the cost of the processor and set it up on his property. I make biodiesel in a shed on my property. One way to dispose of the glycerin is to recover the methanol then compost the glycerin.
