What is the Truth and how can we define it?

I was just wondering the other day what is truth and how can we define it,what does speaking the truth means is truth a subjective or objective mater does the same truth apply to every living person or is it up to each individual person to decide truth from lie

For instance someone comes to you and says your t shirt is green but from my point of view is actually red but the person is conviced its green is that person telling the truth because from my point of view it would be a lie ?
I know the example is kinda bad but it was the first though that crossed my mind but thanks for the answer i finally got some insight into the matter

You could probably write a book about this topic (and I'm sure there are dozens of books already written about this). But... philosophically, truth is generally relative. It's based on what we already know, and what we hold as "true."

Say person A asks a girl out with a rose. The girl thinks it's sweet and then they go about happily doing whatever they want to do. Person B asks a girl out with a rose, but she thinks it's kind of pathetic/unoriginal and laughs in his face. So if each person is considering whether or not a rose is something that'll pick up a girl, person A would think "yes" and person B would think "no." Which is true? What is true for person A is not true for person B (for a variety of reasons). They would disagree. However, neither of them are incorrect.

That was a horrible example I came up with haha but it was the first thing that came to my head. Also, if you look up the theory of relativity... that's another way to look at "truth." Simply studying that topic will definitely give you some insight.

I don't really see how the shirt thing would work... unless the person who thinks it's red has cellophane in front of them. In that spot, the shirt is red, yes - however, from the person who's right in front, the t-shirt is green... That might be a bit different because light works in a very specific way, and if in fact the photons are behaving in a way that would make the shirt appear green to the naked eye, the absolute truth is that the shirt is green. So I don't know.

I haven't read up too much on this topic but it is very interesting. I want to take a college elective on this topic. It can become pretty deep.

Also, what the person above me wrote... I don't think "best" should be synonymous with "truth." What is true may not always be what we want. I totally see what you're saying but that definition is very limited.
