Bathroom light wiring -- How to wire?
The fixture has 1 black, 1 white, 1 copper ground.
From the wall I have 2 blacks, 2 whites, 1 red and what looks like 2 copper grounds twisted together around a screw inside the box.
I believe I twist all blacks together and all whites together, and I think the red has to do with the fan on the other switch. But what do I do with the red, just cap it? Also, does the fixture's ground go to the 2 coppers or just to the ground screw on the fixture plate? Thanks!
The fixture ground point goes to the bare copper wire in the cable to the fixture. The white wire at that point goes to white, and the black to black. At the other end of the cable, in the switch box, connect all of the bare copper grounds together, and connect the white wire to the existing white wires. The black wire will probably go to the red wire, as it is likely to be the one going to the switch. Try it and see; there is no hazard involved if you proceed with due care. If that doesn't work, you will need to identify the function of each black or red wire (a neon tester is invaluable for this), and also determine what to do about a switch for the new fixture. If you are installing a switch, one side gets connected to the existing black wires, and the other to the black wire in the new cable.
