How effective is key clicking (woodwinds and brass) in orchestration with strings?
I've written a piece for 2 Cellos, 3 violas, single trombone, horn, bassoon, clarinet, oboe and flute. I've got a passage where 2 string instruments are playing pizz. and the others play rhythmical patterns in p. The horn and trombone are playing a repetitive staccato pattern. Now, I'd like to try and have the four woodwind instruments play 2 key clicking patterns on top of this (attempting to re-create the sound of train tracks). Will it be worth trying, or will the sound be lost, as I know key clicking isn't very loud. Will it make a difference if the woodwinds click in ff, and the strings and brass is playing p or pp?
Very grateful for any help. I've got an image of the bars where this happens in the score, but can't attach it in this email.

Key slaps can be very effective (Marianka....) esp. in the lower reaches of the instrument's primary scale. But even FF against a string pizz p, I don't think they'd carry well enough.
