F*$@#@&*ken engine problems?
I gotta small block Chevy 400 engine and today I pull the spark plugs out of it(Its been slow running worse and worse lately) only to find 3 of the 8 plugs, have had the spark gap completely squashed shut and one of the plugs has had the diode knocked to the side.. These are new plugs (three weeks old) and my mechanic said last time i took it in the plug were in the same condition!!! Have i got the wrong plugs??? I'm guessing the pistons hit them, but why?? The cylinders involved were 3,4,and 6 and the plug I'm using are NGK BP4FS.. and help would be appreciated.. Cheers!!
Just a though....I've never encountered this, but they do make spark plugs with different amounts of threads, meaning some go down further into your engine then others. When you go to replace them, ask if you can get a plug with fewer threads. If you're running a high compression pistion or a closed chamber head, its possible your piston is hitting your plug.
