How to wire a single 4ohm DVC sub mono amp?
How would i wire this sub to match the 4ohm 500RMS rating that the sub wants with a mono amp that does 500 rms @ 4ohm?
There's no way to wire a single DVC 4 ohm sub to present a 4 ohm load other than using just one of the voice coils. With both voice coils, it can be wired to 2 ohms (coils in parallel) or to 8 ohms (coils in series).
Some people claim to routinely use just one coil in DVC subs with no problems, but I don't know. I've never used them that way. The purpose of having 2 voice coils in the first place, is to provide different wiring configurations. And besides you will halve the power rating if just one coil is used.
Your best solution would be to run a pair of DVC 4 ohm subs which can be wired to present a 4 ohm load. But if you use just the one sub, then wire the voice coils in series and give the amp an 8 ohm load. There will be less power to the sub, but your amp will not draw excess current causing it to overheat and fail.
