I want to add a capacitor to my amp setup. How do I do this?
I know it goes to the power cable. I checked the manual that came with it and it says the power lead from the battery goes to teh + end of the cap then to the amp. The ground wire from the amp goes to teh cap then to teh grounded bolt. Is this true? I heard you can also put a cap inline with the speakers. I read that I need to charge the capacitor by placing a resistor inline between the cap and the battery. I took electronics in high school and if my memory serves me right a capacitor consists of two flat planes that hold charges parallel to each other across a distance. When the the positive side has reserved enough charge that the difference between the + and - are great the charge will jump the gap to the negative side. you don't need to charge it, it will do it on its own once current starts runnign through it. The only thing I can think of is that by using a resistor it reduces the current so it slowly charges up. Do I need to do this charging and if so how?
if you dont charge it slow enough, it'll overheat/melt and be worthless really quick
caps dont help much in the really powerful systems and arent noticeable for long with a lower power system. get a better alternator or two and a good optima battery(red or yellow top, i cant remember)
if you really need it you could hook up another battery in place of a cap(they are the same thing:store 12volt energy)
